The beekeepers of the Kleinwalsertal
Mountain honey from Außer Riezlern - honey directly from the beekeeper
Mountain honey from Außer-Riezlern is one of the region's specialties. In Kleinwalsertal, nature still sets the pace. Extremely long cold spells, lots of snow and a harsh climate only allow nature to come to life in mid-May.
Only then does everything start to bloom and the bees have a chance of finding food. From this point on, the bees have to switch on the turbo. Pollen and nectar have to be collected and the new winter stockpile has to be laid in a rush. By mid-August, the bees are already settling in for the winter and by October at the latest, they have completely stopped flying.
Thanks to the unique location in the small Walser valley, the local beekeepers are lucky enough to be able to harvest first-class honey. Whether mountain flowers, dandelions, forest or alpine roses - every honey is carefully produced and processed by hand.
Visit to beekeeper Achim Schneider in Außer Riezlern
Honey straight from the beekeeper: this is not only a precious natural product, but also a very special taste experience. A lot of work, heart and soul and passion go into every liter of this liquid gold. Beekeeper Achim Schneider, who runs his own mountain apiary in Schwende, is well aware of this. Achim Schneider specializes in honey and bees and produces high-quality honey as well as bee wax candles and propolis tinctures. You can even buy whole bee colonies from him on request.
"Here in Kleinwalsertal I can harvest first-class honey. Depending on the time of year and the weather conditions, we can harvest fantastic golden-yellow spring blossom honey. Later we go into the mountains where, depending on the location, we can collect great aromatic mountain blossoms and at the very top we get an alpine rose honey from June, but only if all the conditions are right." - Achim Schneider
Achim Schneider also opens his doors to guests. He regularly offers guided tours and provides insights into the life of bees. Visitors can learn more about the elaborate craft of honey production and the precious raw material.
