Mountain biking in the Kleinwalsertal valley

The start and finish of this freeride tour is the parking lot at the valley station of the Zafernalift in Mittelberg/Kleinwalsertal (1206 m). To start the tour, take the Zafernalift up to the mountain station. Once at the top, follow the gravel path to the left, which initially leads gently up and down to the Stutzalpe. From here it gets steep. The gravel ramp has a very steep ascent. It is advisable to dismount here and push the bike to avoid exhausting yourself at the start of the tour. After the second steep section, turn left to the Obere Lüchlealpe. From here, follow the mostly "flowing" panoramic trail, which mostly descends gently, to the Stierhofalpe and on to the Starzelalpe. From the Starzelalpe, the downhill trail to Baad begins with many steps and hairpin bends. The last few meters to Baad are on a gravel path and a short asphalt section. You start the way back behind the bus shelter on a gravel path that leads steadily downhill to Bödmen. In Bödmen, you briefly take the main road and then turn left again opposite the Edeka supermarket. This brings you back to the starting point on a narrow path.

The start and finish of this short but challenging tour is the parking lot at the Kanzelwandbahn valley station (1075 m). From the valley station, head towards the center of the village and then turn uphill onto the Köpfleweg. Continue along Köpfleweg to the end of the village, where you turn right into the trail at a pasture. At the next junction, continue straight on to the Riezler Alpe. After a short ride, you will reach the Kanzelwand ski slope. From here, the trail climbs steeply uphill on a gravel path. After approx. 1 kilometer you reach the turn-off towards Köpfle. This is followed by a short trail descent into the Zwerenbach ravine. Cross the stream and push your bike a little way uphill on the other side of the stream. At the top, you have reached the highest point (1459 m) of the tour and the start of the descent. The flowing single trail through the forest now follows for the next 1.5 kilometers. At the end of the trail, turn right onto the tarred path towards Riezlern. A short distance later, you will pass through a campsite and then find yourself back at the entrance to Riezlern.

From the Walserhaus in Hirschegg, the medium-difficulty mountain bike route follows the Walserstrasse in the direction of Mittelberg. After about one kilometer, turn right onto Rohrweg, which leads to the reservoir and on to the Parsennbahn mountain station. Along the Schwarzwassertalstraße, the trail leads to the Auenhütte at the valley station of the Ifenbahn. From there, the trail continues in the direction of Melköde, and soon the view of the idyllic Herzsee lake opens up. The path leads through the wild and romantic Rüche nature reserve, flanked by mighty boulders - remnants of a centuries-old rockslide. After reaching the summit at a wayside shrine, the path leads to Alpe Melköde. Return along the same path to the Herzsee lake. There we recommend taking the right-hand path to return to Hirschegg via the Schwarzwassertalstraße and the Heuberg.

From the parking lot in Baad, the route leads over the Bärguntbach stream into the picturesque Bärgunttal valley. After a short time, the route branches off to the left and the imposing rock massif of the Bärenkopf appears. The Widdersteinalpe is the first recommended place to take a break. The gravel path then leads along dense forest slopes to the open Bärgunthütte, where regional specialties are on offer and there is another rest stop. From there, the trail leads to the left of the Bärguntbach stream back to Baad.

The tour starts directly at the Tobel bus stop and leads uphill via the "Rohrweg". The first ascent is mastered after just 5 to 10 minutes. Passing the reservoir, the route is then relatively flat for around 10 to 15 minutes through the Heuberg ski area, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view as far as the Parsenn. Once you arrive at Parsenn, simply follow the Schöntalstraße to the mountain station of the Heuberg. Keep left there and take the panoramic trail. Follow the almost flat gravel road towards the Zaferna mountain station. About 20 minutes later you reach the Sonna-Alp at the Zaferna lift. From there, head downhill along the asphalt hiking trail towards Mittelberg Ort.

The trail starts in the Riezler district of "Unterwestegg" on the "Schwandweg", from where it goes uphill to the Mittelalpe. Then follow the old church path towards Amannsalpe-Schrattenwang. This is followed by a steep descent via Schönblick to Kornau. Here you follow the main road for about 400 meters and then turn left via the district of Reute to Jauchen. At the end of Jauchen, turn left again onto the Wiesenweg to the Breitachbrücke bridge. From the entrance to Oberstdorf, simply follow the cycle path in a northerly direction to the Breitach bridge and after the bridge turn left again onto the cycle path to Weidach. At the junction, turn left towards Breitachklamm and just before the Breitachklamm parking lot, turn right onto the road towards Sesselalpe. After crossing the Starzlach bridge, the ascent begins. At the junction, simply continue straight on to Hinterenge and leave the path to Sesselalpe on your right. Then keep left and follow the Straußbergweg into Schwende, over the bridge and back to the starting point.

From the Auenhütte at the valley station of the Ifenbahn, the mountain bike trail leads towards Melköde. The view of the magically situated Herzsee lake soon opens up. The route continues through the wild and romantic Rüche nature reserve, flanked by imposing boulders, witnesses to a huge rockfall centuries ago. After reaching the wayside shrine on the left, the trail leads along the right-hand side of the large Melköde plain to the ancient settlement of Alpe Melköde, which according to documents has been inhabited all year round since 1612. Return along the same path to the Herzsee lake, from where you take the path on the right and return to the starting point.
